Book Review: Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Cry Wolf - P BriggsCry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Blurb: Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country is about to recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

Review: To be perfectly honest, I felt like I was missing something throughout most of the book. I have not kept up with the Mercy Thompson series, and felt that was a bit of a draw back on my understanding of the events leading up to this book.

However, Patricia does a fantastic job of drawing you in with the story–even not knowing all of the backstory. Anna is a character you can empathize with and cheer for throughout the story. Charles is an Alpha male you don’t want to slap silly, and you actually hope he can get his crap together and be what Anna needs without trampling all over her. The chemistry between the two MCs is well-written and increases the story.

Overall, I think Patricia Briggs has another great book to add to her list of achievements. She defines each character’s voice without a lot of hullabaloo and gets down and dirty with their backstories in ways that makes it easy to read and understand motivation and character action. She has no wasted words, no empty descriptions, and no extraneous characters. I like to see a bit more snark and sarcasm in my books, but I have no complaints with the amount that was present in the book.
